Sameer Nair helmed Applause Entertainment has signed a wide ranging content partnership with Zee5 Global’s Indian subcontinent-focused programming block Zindagi led by Shailja Kejriwal.
As part of this latest deal Applause and Zindagi will create South Asian-themed content from across the subcontinent. It will begin with making content in Hindustani (Hindi and Urdu) and then expand to other regional languages.
Already under development for the past eight months the format that will be followed for these contents includes commissioning and producing series and films and then licence them. Announcements on the projects will be made soon.
Considering political scenarios (in India and Pakistan), this content partnership will also include South Asian-themed stories from the U.K. and the U.S. and few of them will be shot in neutral countries like Bangladesh and Nepal. Also, there are talks about Sri Lankan content and collaboration with filmmakers like Meenu Gaur and Asim Abbasi.
Aditya Birla Group backed Applause Entertainment has made a niche of its own in the Indian entertainment industry with contents like Scam franchise, Criminal Justice, Undekhi, Zwigato, City of Dreams, Avrodh, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, Your Honor and many more. On the other hand Zindagi has given Pakistani and Bangladeshi themed shows like ‘Churails’, ‘Dhoop Ki Deewar’, ‘Mrs. & Mr. Shameem’, ‘Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam’, ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’ and more.
