In a recent development in Hollywood, deep-pocketed studio Apple Movies has picked up exclusive rights to actress Lily Gladstone’s film ‘Fancy Dance’. Apple will release the movie in limited theatres, after which ‘Fancy Dance’ will hit its Apple TV Plus streaming platform.
‘Fancy Dance’ had first premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival 2023 last year. Most Sundance films get snapped up by major platforms soon after their festival premieres. Fancy Dance, however, was waiting for a taker despite receiving acclaim at Sundance 2023. Now Apple has stepped in to pick up the film for exclusive release.
Apple’s belated acquisition of Fancy Dance can be attributed to the fact that the star of its leading lady, Lily Gladstone, is on a meteoric rise. The critical success of Apple’s Martin Scorsese movie ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ has done wonders for its female lead, Lily Gladstone. Add to it, the multiple awards and universal acclaim that the skilled actress has been garnering for her role of Mollie Burkhart in the film is cherry on the cake.
Lily Gladstone has already won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for Killers Of The Flower Moon and is the frontrunner to pick up the Academy Award in the category too. All of the above has tilted Apple’s favorable view of Fancy Dance.
Fancy Dance is directed by Erica Tremblay, in her feature directorial debut. The film is written by her, along with Miciana Alise. Besides Lily Gladstone, Fancy Dance stars Isabel Deroy-Olson, Ryan Begay, Shea Whigham, Audrey Wasilewski, among others, in key roles.
The film follows a woman who cares for her niece after her sister disappears but risks losing custody to her niece’s father.
There’s no information on the theatrical release date of Fancy Dance, much less, its streaming date. Stay tuned for more updates on Fancy Dance.
