‘Green Book’ director Peter Farrelly has been hard at work writing the script for his latest project – a film adaptation of the book by Joanna Molloy and John “Chickie” Donohue, “The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A True Story of Friendship Stronger Than War”. The script is complete and done with, and the cast is locked, almost. Zac Efron and Russell Crowe are in advanced talks to star in the film, and their casting is mostly a done deal. Bill Murray is also in talks to star in a supporting role alongside Efron and Crowe, though he’s not attached yet.
The latest buzz related to the upcoming film is that Apple TV Plus is very keen to come on board the film as financiers, and acquire it for streaming on its platform. Apple is in a hurry to shore up its content library with buzzy projects from Hollywood A-listers. The Greatest Beer Run Ever fits in perfectly with its ambitious plans.
‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever’ is a heartwarming war and buddy film, based on real-life incidents from author John “Chickie” Donohue’s life. Donahue left New York in 1967 to track down his childhood buddies who were fighting the Vietnam War in the US Army, and all because he wanted to share a few beers with his friends. The book became a New York Times Best-seller upon publication in 2020.
The screenplay for The Greatest Beer Run Ever has been written by Peter Farrelly, along with Pete Jones and Brian Currie. The latter was his co-writer for the ‘Green Book’ screenplay as well. Green Book won three Academy Awards – for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali – out of the five it was nominated for – and three Golden Globes – in the same categories as its Oscars 2019 wins.
