Recent series ‘Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters’ has proved to be a smashing success for Apple TV Plus. And the prestigious streamer is quite pleased with the results. So pleased that it has gone ahead and renewed Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters for a season 2, as well as signed a huge deal with owner Legendary Entertainment for multiple spinoff series set in the same universe…..errr, MonsterVerse.
Along with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 and the multiple spinoff series based on the franchise, Apple TV Plus plans to “embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as it expands Legendary’s MonsterVerse”.
As content creators scramble to produce the next big thing in entertainment, the MonsterVerse has become the proverbial low-hanging fruit for the industry. Anything and everything related to Godzilla, Kong and gang seems to hit the sweet spot with audiences – both on the big screen; and now, with Apple TV Plus’ ‘Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters’, on the small screen too.
Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters stars Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell as leads. The series follows two siblings who, after realising that monsters are real, retrace their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch, encountering Godzilla and other monsters along the way. The dramatic saga spanning three generations reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters will be executive produced by showrunners and co-creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction, along with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, and Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville and Jen Roskind. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary Entertainment for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as a natural byproduct of their long-term relationship with the film franchise.
