Apple TV+ Flexes Muscle, Cancels Gawker Media Show!

Gawker Media was one of the biggest American Blogging sites out there. Gawker Media was notoriously known to create aggressive and offensive articles and posts for the rich and powerful, especially in the States. In 2016, they were sued by the targets that they have posted about for so long, in 2016.

Recently, there was news that Gawker Media was collaborating with Apple TV+ for an upcoming show. Two Gawker Media employees were known to have sold the idea to Apple and also had two writers from Gawker onboard for the show. It was even reported that some episodes for the certain show were already shot and rest was to be shot in the coming months. But, sadly their dreams were shattered by Apple CEO Tim Cook, one of Gawker Media’s past targets. Tim Cook immediately scraped away, “Scraper”, the Gawker Media show as soon as he came to know about it and more so, because of the content it was supposed to be providing.

In an email to the Apple executive that was part of the show said that Mr. Cook was absolutely surprised after he came to know that they were taking Gawker on board for producing content. There’s definitely a reason as to why Tim Cook was surprised as Gawker has left no stone unturned in humiliating the tech giant and also outing him as gay, violating his personal life and privacy. Gawker’s new show that was supposed to be released by Apple was about news related to China. While this happened, Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President for Internet Software and Services in an interview has firmly put out that Apple will never take on board things, one being hard core nudity and other being China. Another reason as to why Gawker Media’s show was cancelled and scrapped.

As of now Gawker Media’s show is now out in the market again for streaming platforms to take over or for production houses. It can be clearly seen from this, the power these tech and streaming giants hold. Be it Jeff Bezos and Amazon, Reed Hastings and Netflix or even Tim Cook and Apple TV+, they all hold power to control whatever needs to be put out there.

Being a viewer we have always seen streaming platforms picking up even the boldest of the shows and content for release, which also means Gawker Media’s show most probably would have been picked up but due to there earlier cases of putting down people and doing unnecessary news to stay in the game, Apple seemingly has taken a right decision at the moment to shut it down.
