Precisely four months after streaming giant Apple TV Plus had ordered the live-action Godzilla and the Titans series, the much-awaited project has now roped in a talented filmmaker to helm the show. Three times Emmy-nominated filmmaker Matt Shakman, who had directed all the episodes of the critically acclaimed Marvel series ‘WandaVision’, has been attached to direct the upcoming Godzilla series.
For the yet-untitled MonsterVerse series, Matt Shakman will reportedly direct the opening two episodes of the show besides also executive producing it. The show would ostensibly carry forward the story arc set by the MonsterVerse franchise, that started with the 2014 reboot movie ‘Godzilla’, followed by ‘Kong: Skull Island’ (2017), ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ (2019), and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ (2021).
The Apple TV Plus Godzilla and the Titans series would purportedly revolve around a family’s journey to unearth its secrets and legacy which connects the family to a secret organization known as Monarch. Besides this, nothing much regarding the plot is currently known about the project.
Matt Shakman being brought in to direct the MonsterVerse show is certainly a good sign for franchise fans. Because other than helming ‘WandaVision’, Matt Shakman’s previous directorial credits include some widely admired shows like ‘Succession’, ‘The Boys’, ‘Billions’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, ‘The Good Wife’, ‘Revenge’, ‘Fargo’, ‘Mad Men’, and ‘House M.D’, amongst others.
In addition to the Apple TV Plus live-action MonsterVerse series, a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster monster movie ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ is also in the works. Recently, Dan Stevens was cast in the lead role for the film to be directed by Adam Wingard.
Other than the Godzilla and the Titans live-action show, Apple TV+ has an exciting slate of forthcoming series including the star-studded anthology ‘Extrapolations’, medical drama ‘Five Days at Memorial’, World War II based drama ‘Masters of the Air’, psychological thriller ‘Surface’, crime show ‘Bad Monkey’, ‘Constellation’, and ‘Shantaram’, to name a few.
