Apple TV Plus has broken a tried and tested tradition at its platform with the upcoming new season of its most popular show, ‘Ted Lasso’. And that is Apple TV Plus will premiere ‘Ted Lasso‘ Season 3 on March 15, which happens to be a Wednesday.
Regular users of Apple TV Plus know very well that the streaming platform has always premiered its new shows on Fridays. Apple TV Plus has unfailingly stuck to this tradition ever since its inception three years ago. But now, Apple TV Plus will premiere Episode 1 of Ted Lasso Season 3 on March 15, Wednesday – a first for the platform, and a departure from its usual Friday release pattern. Subsequent episodes of the new season of Ted Lasso will also premiere on Apple TV Plus every Wednesday.
So the question arises – why is Apple TV Plus departing from its Friday release pattern for Ted Lasso Season 3? Is it because another big ticket show, ‘Extrapolations’ is releasing on Friday, 17th March; and Apple TV Plus doesn’t want to dilute the significance of either shows?
Or is it because Fridays are chock-a-block with big and prominent releases on every major streaming platform – Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus Hotstar, Hulu, HBO Max, and others. And Apple TV Plus wants exclusive eyeballs for its tent pole show, Ted Lasso.
Maybe, maybe not. While we think it could be the latter reason, Apple TV Plus hasn’t shared any specific agenda in premiering Ted Lasso Season 3 on Wednesday.
Ted Lasso Season 3 will see an epic and entertaining face-off between Ted Lasso, coach of AFC Richmond, and his erstwhile assistant, Nate Shelley, who’s now coaching rival team, West Ham United. AFC Richmond has clawed its way back into the English Premier League, but is widely expected to finish last in the table. Roy Kent has taken on the job of assistant coach at AFC Richmond, while trying to sort things out with romantic partner, Keeley and her PR agency ambitions.
All popular characters from the show return in Ted Lasso Season 3 — the man himself, Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis), Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), and of course, Nate Shelley (Nick Mohammed). Oh yes, and we also get a glimpse of fan favourite character, Trent Crimm (James Lance).
Ted Lasso Season 3 premieres on Apple TV Plus on 15th March.
