Jason Momoa’s Chief of War, a historical epic TV series, has secured its release date on the Apple TV+ streaming platform. The show will premiere with its first two episodes on August 1, followed by weekly releases through September 19.
Alongside Momoa, the series features a talented cast, including Temuera Morrison, Luciane Buchanan, Cliff Curtis, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Moses Goods, Kaina Makua, James Udom, Brandon Finn, Te Kohe Tuhaka, and Mainei Kinimaka.
Inspired by real-life events, Chief of War is a nine-episode series that follows the courageous warrior Ka’iana (played by Momoa) as he attempts to unify the islands before Western colonization takes hold in the region during the late 18th century.
Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, both of Hawaiian heritage, developed the series and serve as executive producers. Momoa also directed the season’s final episode. Doug Jung leads the production as showrunner and executive producer. A team of producers, including Peter Chernin and Francis Lawrence, contributes to the project, with Justin Chon directing the initial episodes. Fifth Season serves as the production studio.
The series marks Momoa’s second collaboration with Apple TV+ after See, which ran from 2019 to 2022.
Jason Momoa also stars alongside Jack Black in A Minecraft Movie, set for a global theatrical release on April 4. Additionally, he has been cast as Lobo in DCU’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in 2026. Stay tuned for more updates.
