There’s a major change of plan in the release strategy for Apple TV’s big ticket film ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’. The movie will now release in multiple theatres and markets across the globe. Killers Of The Flower Moon also has a new global release date – it will hit theatres across the world on 20th October, 2023.
Apple Studios had initially planned a very limited theatrical release in select markets and theatres for Killers Of The Flower Moon. The initial limited release date for Killers Of The Flower Moon was planned for 6th October, 2023. Apple planned to premiere the Martin Scorsese directed magnum opus only on Apple TV Plus for viewers in other regions.
But last evening, Apple announced that ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ will now exclusively release in theatres; and it will be an expansive, worldwide release. This effectively means that Killers Of The Flower Moon will also release in theatres in India, which was unlikely earlier.
The change of release plan for Killers Of The Flower Moon is definitely owing to the back to cinemas trend this year, and the massive successes of movies such as Oppenheimer, Barbie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and others. The success of these movies has sparked hope in Apple TV that Killers Of The Flower Moon too will lure audiences to the theaters, to watch yet another coming together of the blockbuster pair of director Martin Scorsese and star Leonardo DiCaprio.
The screenplay of ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ is adapted from the David Grann book, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon: Adapted for Young Readers: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI’. Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese have written the screenplay for the movie. The movie is a damning indictment of the ruthless greed of white capitalists, who place profits over human life.
Killers Of The Flower Moon stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Nero and Lily Gladstone as leads, along with Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, Brendan Fraser, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Louis Cancelmi, Tatanka Means, Michael Abbot Jr., Pat Healy, Scott Shepard, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson in pivotal roles.
