As a cop or detective, Jake Gyllenhaal has always found success. From “End of Watch” to “Prisoners,” there are numerous roles that solidify him as an icon in these genres. Recently, during his run on Apple TV, he delivered a phenomenal performance in “Presumed Innocent.”
Based on the 1987 novel by Scott Turow, Gyllenhaal plays the role of Chicago’s chief deputy prosecutor, Rusty Sabich.
Releasing on June 12th, the early reviews are in, and it’s being said that the show can definitely be your next binge-worthy legal drama. The show is filled with positive aspects.
Nailing the writing of a legal drama is definitely tough. Surprising people with twists and turns is always a challenge. Plus, fans have become more intelligent and are accustomed to certain types of shows, making unpredictability and memorability crucial for writers. David E. Kelley accomplishes this task adeptly.
PRESUMED INNOCENT sounds like a bad broadcast procedural, but it is a premium David E. Kelley limited series on Apple TV+. Say less.

And what makes good writing look even better? Someone like Jake Gyllenhaal.
Most early reviews praise Gyllenhaal, highlighting him as one of the show’s strongest aspects. Though a remake, the show doesn’t imitate the film but adds many new elements.
In Apple TV’s “Presumed Innocent,” Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Rusty Sabich, Chicago’s chief deputy prosecutor, facing trial for the murder of his colleague and lover, Carolyn Polhemus.
David E. Kelley’s eight-part miniseries offers a fresh and updated take on Scott Turow’s 1987 novel, diverging from the 1990 film adaptation with richer, more nuanced female characters, including Rusty’s wife Barbara and lead investigator Det. Alana Rodriguez.
Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of Rusty is compelling, depicting a desperate man struggling with his flawed decisions and public persona. Comparisons are being made between Gyllenhaal and Harrison Ford, but these are practically absurd. Gyllenhaal gives the role of Rusty a completely different spin than Ford did, and it’s probably a good thing.
The show will stream on Apple TV from June 12th.
