Rotten Tomatoes has revealed its scores for Aquaman 2 and Anyone But You. Based on initial reactions, it seems like ‘The Lost Kingdom’ has ended the DCEU not with a bang but a whimper. Many believed the upcoming Jason Momoa starrer would give the DCEU a satisfying conclusion. However, the film’s first critical reactions and early box office predictions made it clear that the Aquaman sequel would fail to reach the heights of its 2018 predecessor.
On the other hand, early reactions have praised ‘Anyone But You, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glenn Powell. The film’s director, Will Gluck, fails to recreate the magic of Friends With Benefits (2011) with his latest rom-com. But he does take complete advantage of the chemistry between his leading duo. The film has created quite a buzz among people.
Aquaman 2 currently stands at a ‘rotten’ score of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 42 reviews. Meanwhile, Anyone But You has a ‘fresh’ RT score of 65% based on 20 reviews.
Right from the get-go, Warner Bros had no faith in Aquaman 2. The studio unveiled the film’s first trailer just three months before its theatrical release. It was quite unusual as the promotional clips for big-budgeted projects usually come out nearly 6-7 months before their theatrical releases. In addition, the sequel had a troubled production, including reducing Amber Heard’s screen time and removing Michael Keaton’s and Ben Affleck’s scenes of Bruce Wayne. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it underwent a total of three reshoots before the start of the Hollywood strikes.
Anyone But You is expected to collect a decent amount of money at the global box office, mainly due to the amazing chemistry between Sweeney and Powell and Will Gluck’s prominence as the director of Friends With Benefits. Stay tuned for more updates.
