Nicolas Cage battles intimidating subterranean monsters in the Arcadian trailer. A man and his two teenage kids are struggling to survive in a secluded farmhouse at the end of the world in the upcoming apocalyptic thriller Arcadian, which is directed by Benjamin Brewer. Maxwell Jenkins, Sadie Soverall, and Jaeden Martell round up the main cast of Arcadian, in addition to Cage. The Arcadian trailer has now been made available by Highland Film Group.
The apocalyptic society depicted in the teaser is one of human struggle and pollution. In the belief that they will be safe from violence, Cage’s character isolates himself and his sons in a distant home. But as they battle subterranean monsters, the three quickly learn that “the fiercest enemy comes alive at night.”
The question is whether is Arcadian going to be the next big cage show.
Cage has demonstrated in the last few years that he is living in his golden age. Following a string of critically acclaimed films in the mid-2000s and 2010s, Cage has returned with a plethora of hits, including Dream Scenario, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe last year. Renfield shows that the actor still has a silly side, but in between, Cage has once again demonstrated his broad playing abilities in movies like Pig, Mandy, and the wonderfully self-aware The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
Arcadian might make a fascinating addition to Nicolas Cage’s body of work in 2020. Mandy and Pig both portend favorably for Cage’s performance in Arcadian. Cage played a sensitive role as a reclusive and devoted guy in the critically acclaimed drama Pig, where his instincts were revealed via his love for his beloved truffle pig. Mandy from 2018 demonstrated Cage’s proficiency in the horror subgenre. Given that Arcadian appears to have aspects of each of these movies, Cage has a good chance of turning forth a standout performance.
All three of the lead performances, Cage, Martell, and Jenkins, seem promising based on the Arcadian trailer. Arcadian seems to be working on several levels because the movie starts as a creature horror tale before getting more macabre.
