The trailer for Bad Newz was quite good, but it contradicts the excitement of the fans, or rather, the lack of it. Releasing on 19th July, the film is from the makers of Good Newwz, and it’s definitely one of the hyped titles of recent times.
Talking about the box office performance of the film, Good Newwz was a big hit. With a budget of ₹70 crores, the film earned ₹318.57 crores at the box office.
However, early reactions suggest that audiences are skeptical about the upcoming Bollywood film.
Early reactions are mixed at best. While fans expect strong performances, their interest revolves around watching it on OTT platforms rather than experiencing it theatrically. The point is clear: though it’s a comedy that can be enjoyed with family, most people aren’t comfortable watching it in theaters with their families.
According to BMS statistics, the movie is definitely garnering attention. By 14th July, it had over 28k interest impressions, and this number is increasing every day. Early expectations indicate that Bad Newz might have an opening of ₹6 CR to ₹7 CR, but there is stiff competition in the market.
Kalki is still running strong, though it will likely slow down significantly by the time Bad Newz releases, and as it heads towards its OTT release, it will die down even more. On the other hand, Indian 2 is being panned by viewers, and a massive hit like Munjya’s box office is slowing down as well.
In terms of Hollywood, Twisters and Immaculate will be releasing around the same date, but the general audience won’t be too bothered by then.
On paper, the movie has every reason to be a hit. It will appeal to the youth as it features a modern topic with ironic undertones. Moreover, it stars favorites like Tripti Dimri and Vicky Kaushal.
Secondly, the audience is loving the bold comedy. Though it won’t attract families, it can definitely be watched with friends. Good Newwz can be understood as a sample; the adult comedy was filled with iconic one-liners that gave it a major boost.
Plus, Crew’s example shows that bold movies can succeed; the audience showed their love despite it being an adult comedy.
The audience will be turning up to watch the film, and if one adds the positive response of the viewers during the early days, the film will definitely be a major hit at the box office.
