The trend of the biopic has been widely used in the Bollywood industry, and their collections have only prompted more and more filmmakers to go on this path. The massive success of Dangal and Sanju has instilled an everlasting faith in the Bollywood industry but are the OTT platforms also gravitating towards this trend.
The OTT platforms have come as a breath of fresh air to the modern generation and have become a safe hub for experimentation and creativity. We now get to see new stories and new actors emerge from the abyss thanks to such digital platforms. There are already a vast majority of biopics already made by Bollywood, and it looks like the digital platforms are only taking this ahead. Part of the reason why this could be such an upward trend is that the masses want something realistic.
Soorarai Pottru and Gunjan Saxena are just a few of the biopics that were released exclusively on OTT platforms and while Scam 1992 was a runaway success more and more creators are taking inspiration from real-life incidents and people (Did we mention that The Big Bull is also coming on Disney+ Hotstar which is based on Harshad Mehta). Ullu has also come up with their own series which takes you on a journey behind the Paper scam.
All of these titles make us feel that more and more creators are looking to bring such stories to the masses in a cinematic manner which will not only help gain attention but also help inform the audience more about such personalities provided that they are genuine when it comes to such projects.
