R Rating. “Restriction” is something that provokes us more. Humans are essentially interesting creatures that are tempted by things that they are not supposed to do. R Rating is the American version of India’s A Rating which stands for Adults. Although R Rated films in the USA allow much more independence than what A rated films in India do.
Lately, filmmakers have started to flaunt that rating. You all must remember how the makers of Animal flaunted A certificate as a sort of trophy in the marketing campaign of the film. Well, things are not usually like this in the USA but some films like Joker, Oppenheimer, Five Nights At Freddy’s, M3GAN etc did indeed bank on the R rating.
All the films we mentioned above are also huge hits at the box office. But, people seem to be getting bored with R ratings.

These are the openings of R Rated films. We have only presented the data of films whose openings were more than that of $10 million. Now if you see, Civil War is a big achievement because A24 films do not earn in big numbers. But, this is not the case with every other film. Makers need to bring some sort of innovation to the R Rated films. Merely making R Rated films is not fun anymore.
