While it is a common (mis)conception that animated movies are for younger viewers, it is mostly adults who are brought to tears during, or after them. One such film that successfully achieved the same, and garnered widespread acclaim was Andrew Stanton’s ‘Finding Nemo’.
The title also bagged the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in the year following its release in 2003. While doing so, it scripted history for Walt Disney Pictures by becoming the first Pixar Studios film to do so. The heartwarming movie revolves around Marlin, a meek clownfish who embarks on a quest to find his missing son, Nemo after he is abducted from the Great Barrier Reef and dispatched to Sydney.
Marlin enlists the help of a forgetful regal blue tang named Dory to find Nemo. The feature was followed by an equally successful sequel ‘Finding Dory’ in 2016. While there have been no conclusive announcements so far, it is speculated that a new movie in the ‘Finding Nemo’ universe could be happening!
This comes following the statements by the CEO of Pixar, Peter Docter wherein he stated that ‘the ocean is a big place and they’re still fishing around, looking for fresh ideas’.
After having a not-so-great year so far, could spinoffs and franchises be the redemption the studio needs? Stay tuned to find out!
