Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Understated Tryst with Kids’ Films

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Understated Tryst with Kids’ Films

Former Mr. Universe and swashbuckling Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger is a classic case of a magnificent, multifaceted career. Arnold was the go-to action star of the 1980s and 1990s Hollywood.

After getting his big break in and as the sword-yielding ‘Conan the Barbarian’, he achieved phenomenal success after he was cast as the (literally) inhuman antagonist by ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron in the cult sci-fi action film ‘The Terminator’.

Soon after, the former California Governor – Arnold was cast by A-list Hollywood directors of the era including John McTiernan (Predator), Paul Verhoeven (Total Recall), Joel Schumacher (Batman & Robin) and many more. All these movies showcased Arnold’s brawny persona.

However, the 73-year-old actor’s understated penchant for kids’ centric family-comedy films reflected in his intermittent, and probably intentional, selection of films such as ‘Kindergarten Cop’, ‘Last Action Hero’ and ‘Jingle All the Way’.

Nearly three decades after ‘Kindergarten Cop’ came out, the Austrian American actor is all set to make a grand genre comeback in Stan Lee’s forthcoming animated action small-screen series ‘Superhero Kindergarten’. This project is reportedly said to be one of the latest creations from the comic-book legend Stan Lee.

Said to be loosely based on the premise of Arnold’s own film ‘Kindergarten Cop’, ‘Superhero Kindergarten’ is an action-adventure comedy series that purportedly follows an ex-superhero turned kindergarten teacher (Arnold Schwarzenegger as Arnold Armstrong), who teaches a new generation of superhero kids on how to use their powers alongside imparting the usual kindergarten teachings.

Regarding his forthcoming project, Arnold had earlier stated: “This is a deeply personal project for me and I am so pumped to introduce it to the world. Not only has it allowed me to bring to life the work of the fantastic Stan Lee, but the series also touches on subjects I’ve spent my life working on, from health and fitness tips and anti-bullying messages to inclusivity and diversity. It’s an honor to have worked with Stan Lee and I know he would be proud of the message we’re delivering.”

The first two episodes out of the total of 26 episodes of the animated series will start streaming from April 23, 2021, onwards on Kartoon Channel! – a free online streaming platform for kids. The remaining episodes will be subsequently released on a weekly basis.

Interestingly, this will ostensibly be Arnold’s first project where he will be seen voice acting in an animated series. Besides, Arnold is also the Executive Producer of the show. Furthermore, Arnold’s upcoming projects include the action-comedy film ‘Kung Fury 2’ and the comedy movie ‘Triplets’ (co-starring Eddie Murphy and Dany DeVito).
