Jio Studios has just dropped the first trailer for its upcoming film ‘Article 370’. The nationalistic movie releases in theatres on 23rd February, 2024.
Aditya Dhar’s Article 370 is based on true incidents that have happened in Kashmir over the years. Yami Gautam plays an Indian Police Force officer stationed in Kashmir. She is frustrated with the lack of agency that Indian lawkeepers have in Kashmir, owing to the special status granted to the state under the controversial Article 370 in the Constitution.
Time and again, radical fundamentalists go on the rampage in Kashmir, as she and the rest of her team are reduced to mere bystanders. Finally, the Pulwama attack hits; and acts as the final triggering event, leading the Indian government to announce the abrogation of the Article 370, thereby revoking its special status.
The timeline of events, as they take place in Article 370, stays true to actual real-life events in Kashmir. Most of the characters in the movie are modeled on real life personalities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Kashmir politico Omar Abdullah are a few real-life politicians you can guess from their characterisations in the movie.
Going by the trailer of Article 370, one knows for sure that it will be yet another polarising movie in Hindi cinema, just like The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and others. Right wing types will hail the effort, while left-wingers will denounce it as yet another jingoistic propaganda movie.
Article 370 stars Yami Gautam Dhar, Priyamani, Arun Govil, Raj Zutshi, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Skand Thakur, Ashwini Koul, Kiran Karmarkar, Divya Seth Shah, Sumit Kaul, Raj Arjun, Asit Gopinath Redij, Ashwani Kumar and Irawati Harshe. The movie is directed by National Award-winning director Aditya Suhas Jambhale, and produced by Jio Studios and Aditya Dhar’s brother Lokesh Dhar.
