The official teaser for ‘Athhoi’ is out now. It is probably the first screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic ‘Othello’. The teaser looks good and has the regional flavour of ‘Mandaar’.
The movie is directed by Arna Mukhopadhyay and Anirban Bhattacharya acts as the creative director for the project. Previously, Anirban had helmed the Hoichoi show ‘Mandaar’ which was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Arna, the director, plays the titular role, the Bengali version of Othello. Sohini Sarkar plays Diyamona, the character inspired by Desdemona. Anirban himself will be playing the role of Gogo, inspired by Yago, the conspiring villain. There will be other actors in the movie like Ditipriya Roy, Arpan Ghoshal, Mimi Dutta, Soumik Guha etc.
Sohini Sarkar played the role of Lady Macbeth in Mandaar and there are many similarities between these two projects. Also Anirban looks like he is on a spree of adapting Shakespeare classics. Getting such dedicated movies and shows adapted from the plays of the master playwright indeed is a huge treat for fans.
We have seen in Mandaar that music has proved to be a very important element in the show, and it introduced a kind of eeriness in it. The music of Athhoi too looks promising. It is composed by Amit Chatterjee.
The movie is going to hit the theaters on the 14th of June.
