A-Rated action is the new method of success for the Indian audience, as fans are seeing back-to-back hits. North India delivered a hit like Animal, while South India gave us Raayan, showcasing a new avatar of Dhanush. Now, moviegoers are eagerly waiting for Quotation Gang, India’s latest adult-rated action film.
But that’s not the only draw of the film; it is also one of the very few female-led gang films. As the trailer suggests, there will be no shortage of blood, action, and gore. However, there is one major issue that might hinder Quotation Gang—its release strategy.
The film has faced numerous delays, which can cause fans to lose patience. It was originally set for release on June 28, 2024, but was later moved to November 4, then back to June 28, only to be pushed to August 30, and now it’s scheduled for September 13.
Another potential problem is the audio factor. While the film’s original audio is Tamil, the makers plan to release it in four additional dubbed languages. Typically, some audio versions release a few days or weeks after the initial release, but currently, it seems that only the Tamil version will be available on September 13.
The Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada versions might be released later, which could negatively impact box office performance. This is particularly true given the significant language barrier between North and South India. Releasing the Hindi dub alongside the original language might benefit the makers.
Furthermore, stars like Jackie Shroff and Sunny Leone have a more North-centric fanbase. If the audience is kept away from the film, they might end up watching pirated versions or getting spoiled, leading to fewer screens in the North, a shorter OTT window, and a substantial loss for theaters.
Adding to the issue, there are no ticket sales yet, which is surprising given the film’s A-Rated tag should act as a significant draw. If ticket sales don’t start soon, fans may make alternative plans.
One potential saving grace is that no Tamil film is scheduled for release on September 13. However, competition will be tough on September 20. If Quotation Gang manages to generate positive word-of-mouth by then, it might still perform well. But as it stands, the situation looks quite disappointing.
