Avengers: Endgame which has been holding the title of “Highest Grossing Film of all Time” for barely 2 years will most likely relinquish its title to 2009’s science fiction epic Avatar in a couple of weeks. Avengers: Endgame has currently grossed over USD 2.7978 billion worldwide while Avatar has made over USD 2.7897 billion over the past 10-12 years. So how is Avatar going to beat Avengers: Endgame you might ask.
Well, last Friday, Avatar returned to movie theaters in China and the James Cameron cinematic epic has already grossed over USD 3.5 million in its opening week, making the gross total of movie USD 2.7926 billion. After this weekend or probably within next week, we expect Avengers: Endgame to lose its Number 1 spot and Avatar to take the “the whole shebang” Superhero team up movie’s place.
This mammoth box-office figure which Avatar managed to make over a decade of re-releases was beaten by Avengers: Endgame in a matter of months. The Marvel Superhero epic was the culmination of 21 movies (many of which became box-office blockbusters on their own) over 10 years of meticulous storyline plotting and planning, which instantly made the feature film a must-watch movie of the year, nay, the decade.
Because of this, there is a very good chance that Disney will probably wait for a couple of months (at best) and then re-release Avengers: Endgame in select theaters so as to regain the top spot from Avatar (if and after they lose it). But this is just speculation and we will have to wait and see what will happen in the coming few months.
Till then, watch Avatar and Avengers: Endgame which is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
