James Cameron‘s Avatar 2 has finally received a title, Avatar: The Way of Water. Nearly 13 years have passed since the first Avatar (2009) entry came out in theatres. It broke several box office records and emerged as the highest-grossing movie of all time. Yes, several re-releases have helped it in compiling more money over the years. Still, a humongous global collection of $2.84 billion (approx) is not an easy record to shatter. Apart from Cameron’s amazing direction, the movie received acclaim for its breathtaking visuals, gripping storyline, James Horner’s outstanding musical score, and great performances.
Here is what we know about Avatar: The Way of Water so far!
Trailer Release
Several reports have disclosed that the official trailer of Avatar 2 will be dropped at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The people attending the event will be able to enjoy the trailer through premium 4k format, high frame rate and 3D laser-based projection. For others, it will be unveiled next week with the screenings of Marvel Studios’ upcoming bonanza, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Release Date
Avatar: The Way of Water will hit the theatres on December 16th this year, carrying a staggering budget of $250 million on its back with an additional promotional budget of $150 million. The makers have planned to dispatch the upcoming sci-fi entry in nearly 160 languages. Plus, it will be available in IMAX format, 3D, Premium Large Format, high fps version and high-resolution mode upon its release.
Avatar 2’s Cast
The leading duo of Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will play Jake and Neytiri respectively. Also, fans will see their children in the forthcoming sequel: Jamie Flatters as Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri’s oldest child, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, and Trinity Bliss as Tuktirey, their youngest child. In addition to all these guys, new additions like Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones are also a part of the upcoming sequel. Furthermore, Sigourney Weaver played Dr Grace Augustine in the first part. And she is expected to appear in the sequel too. However, she will portray a different role from what she did in the previous Avatar instalment.
Expected Plot
After saving Pandora from the hands of the Resources Development Administration (RDA) and Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), Jake Sully and Neytiri restore peace to the planet and among the people there. They even become parents and start raising three children of their own. But an old threat starts wreaking havoc in their lives and they have no alternative but to leave their home and explore different areas of Pandora.
