A few months back at the San Diego Comic-Con event, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had announced the next two Avengers films namely ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which are scheduled to be released on 2nd May 2025, and 7th November 2025, respectively. These two films will conclude Phase-6 of the MCU.
Out of the two Avengers movies, the first one ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ will be helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who had directed last year’s hit Marvel film ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’.
And now, as per the latest update, ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ has ostensibly enlisted Jeff Loveness as the film’s writer. Although the screenwriter has won a Primetime Emmy Award for his work in the sci-fi sitcom ‘Rick and Morty’ besides writing the talk show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, Jeff Loveness is relatively inexperienced when it comes to screenwriting for big-budget feature films.
Interestingly, Jeff Loveness was also hired as the screenplay writer for the upcoming Ant-Man sequel titled ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, which is set to release on 17th February 2023. And since the latest Ant-Man film is yet to come out, nothing can be said about Jeff Loveness’ work as a writer in the film.
Is Marvel taking a big risk by enlisting a relatively untested writer for such a massive project like ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’? Or is Jeff Loveness the perfect choice as the film’s writer? Especially considering that his filmography comprises not even a single feature film project before the upcoming Ant-Man sequel.
Marvel bosses must have really liked his work in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, otherwise they wouldn’t have taken such a bold move. It still remains to be seen how the upcoming Ant-Man sequel turns out to be, but the Avengers sequel is expected to be much bigger in scale compared to the latest Ant-Man movie.
Another factor which turns out to be in favor of Jeff Loveness is that previously, the talented scribe has written several comics based on popular Marvel characters like Groot, Nova, and Spider-Man. So, his understanding of Marvel characters and the Marvel Cinematic Universe will come in handy while penning the script for ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’.
Moreover, since Jeff Loveness has also written ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, he must be well versed with the character Kang the Conqueror (played by Jonathan majors), who is set to appear in both these films. We have a feeling that Marvel’s calculated risk for hiring Jeff Loveness for ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ will yield rich dividends for the MCU.
