Recently Star Wars franchise tasted success by releasing a live-action television series The Mandalorian on Disney plus. The show was a great success and garnered much acclaim from the critics and fans alike. Now Star wars is going for the same route and this time with another web television live action series which will be a prequel to the Star wars rogue one franchise. The prequel which is still untitled at the moment will feature Diego Luna as the lead and he will be reprising his role of Cassion Andor.
While The Mandalorian was set in the future, after the events of Star wars episode 6, The Cassian Andor series will be set in in five years before the events of Star wars Rogue One. Meaning that to a much simpler and peaceful time from the movie.
Tony Gilroy who is the showrunner, was also set to direct the show but now reports suggest that he has been replaced by Toby Haynes! Well this is not what you are thinking, infact the reason for this is completely understandable. It seems that due to Coronavirus pandemic Gilroy, who lives in US will not be able to travel to UK where the shooting of the show was supposed to take place. Hence they have hired Toby Haynes who already lives in UK to direct the first three episodes of the show. While on the other hand Disney has not yet made any comments on the new development and does we don’t even know who is going to direct the next episodes once the shoot of first 3 episodes is done. The makers of the show persisted with Haynes to direct the episodes for the series as he himself has done a commendable job in various other and previous office works of his which include include Black Mirror Season 4 episode titled “USS Callister”. And the much acclaimed season 2 finale of Sherlock to name a few. Haynes will be helming his new post from October when the shooting is supposed to commense
The Prequel Rogue One Series, follows the storyline of Cassian Andor who is a Rebel Spy. The storyline will be set 5 years before the events of Rogue One film and after what happened to Andor in the original movie, it will be nice to see him back for his role. The series according to the reports is going to be “a rousing spy thriller”.
Apart from Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk will be seen reprising his role of the droid K-2SO and Genevieve O’Reilly as Rebel Alliance. The newly added starcast includes Stellan Skarsgård, Kyle Soller, and Denise Gough.
Like The Mandalorian, The Prequel Rogue One Series will be premiering on Disney+Hotstar for Indian Audience and is expected to arrive in Mid 2021.
