Ayan Mukherji’s ‘Brahmastra’ is a little more than a month away now and he is here to explain how the most memorable epic journey for his most ambitious film began. Just like post the trailer launch he explained the Astarverse, Ayan is once again here to delve further into how it all started.
In 2011, post the release of ‘Wake Up Sid’, Ayan Mukherji was working on the script for his second film ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ in Shimla surrounded by the Himalayas. Inspired by the powerful energy and strong spirituality of the mountains, the vision of ‘Brahmastra’ came to life.
Showcasing a few behind the scene preparations and some early artworks for the film, Ayan explains how he wanted to create a “truly cinematic spectacle unlike anything that had been created out of the Indian film industry before”. To turn his magnificent vision into reality it wasn’t possible to accommodate it all in one film and hence the idea of a mystical, epic movie trilogy came to life.
‘Brahmastra’ uses modern technology and is yet deeply rooted in the ancient Indian culture and spirituality. It wasn’t all a cake walk though. The ambitious idea that Ayan had in his mind was limited by the availability of both technology and budget. But it didn’t stop him from moving forward and making it a reality. More so he believes that ‘Brahmastra’ is a truly pioneering and groundbreaking film for Indian film industry.
It took Ayan Mukherji ten years to make ‘Brahmastra’ come to life and he thinks that time was much needed to create a truly high quality once in a lifetime experience for the audiences.
This unique and smart strategy where the film’s writer/director comes fore to explain in detail about the film, it’s genesis and everything in between, it helps create a special bond with the audience. The aim here by taking the fans on a journey that is very special and personal to the makers is to instill the feeling that the film belongs as much to the audience and they are as invested in it as to all those involved in its making. And when that feeling of belongingness and being invested in gets in, all you want for that thing is to reach the greatest heights of success.
‘Brahmastra – Part One: Shiva’ is a fantasy adventure film written and directed by Ayan Mukherji (‘Wake Up Sid’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’). The film has a star studded cast that includes Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni among others. The highly awaited ‘Brahmastra – Part One: Shiva’ is all set to release in theatres on 9th September, 2022.
