David Ayer has been demanding an “Ayer-Cut” version of the Suicide Squad for a few months now – especially since Zac Snyder (the king of the second release of films) got the approval to shoot and finish his version of the Justice League. Ayer is now getting support from Snyder, saying that even though he hasn’t talked to the director, he fully supports his vision and goes on to say that all directors should be allowed to display their vision.
Zac Snyder is the “original architect” of DC’s extended universe so it makes sense that films that were part of his vision will get his support regardless of the situation. We are not sure if we will get the director’s cut to Suicide Squad, but we are pretty certain that it will all depend on how the Snyder’s version of Justice League is received when it will drop on HBO Max (and theatres world wide) next year.
David Ayer was forced to remove more than 40 minutes of footage from his original film because Warner Media wasn’t happy with the end result. He was then made to create a completely different script which was then shot with an abundance of CGI and the movie eventually was panned by critics. But this wasn’t the only film that faced Warner Bros. interference. Patty Jenkins was forced to add a CGI fight scene at the very end of Wonder Woman.
We seriously hope that there will be an Ayer Cut of the Suicide Squad in the future. The movie didn’t make use of one of their main talents – Jared Leto, who barely got 11 minutes of screen time. Warner Media has been on thin ice lately – thanks to their latest stunt. If they want some of the good will back (at least from fans), backing these projects will do them a world of good.
