Bad Boys 4 helmer Adil El Arbi has spilled some beans about the film’s expected title and tone. He recently had a talk with The Discourse (The Playlist) podcast, where he revealed how the fourth instalment would differ from the previous entries. Arbi co-directed Bad Boys For Life with Bilall Fallah, working with the crazy and sensational duo of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The film collected over $425 million at the global box office.
Arbi revealed the title of the fourth film could be ‘Bad Boys Ride or Die’. Plus, he added that Marcus (Lawrence) would remain at the centre of the film’s storyline.
“Well, you know, the title that we like – I don’t know that they’re going to go for it yet – would be like ‘Bad Boys Ride or Die’ because ‘Bad Boys 4 Life’ is already taken. We didn’t know there was going to be a fourth one, you know?
“But yeah, what’s going to happen in this one is, I think that there’s going to be way more comedy. The third one had the dramatic tone. With this one, it’s really our purpose to get people laughing and having a good time in the theater. Martin [Lawrence] is going to a higher level in this one. This is the culmination of the Marcus Burnett arc.”
All Bad Boys movies primarily focused on Mike Lowery’s (Smith) life and his deeds. The last part introduced his biological son, Armando Aretas (played by Jacob Scipio), and focused mainly on his history with Armando’s mother, Isabel. On the other hand, fans have always watched Marcus as a short-tempered but dedicated family man. Shifting focus to Marcus adds a different dimension to the forthcoming Bad Boys entry. Concentrating on culminating Marcus’ arc indicates that the franchise may end for good after the fourth film.
However, we cannot take Armando completely out of the frame. We witnessed Mike offering Armando a chance for redemption in Bad Boys For Life’s final moments, which the latter accepts. So, we should expect to see some sort of father-son bonding in the fourth entry as well.
The makers have not yet disclosed plot details regarding Bad Boys 4. However, the film has talents like Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jacob Scipio, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paula Nunez, and more. Plus, it has newcomers, such as Eric Dane, Rhea Seehorn, and Melanie Liburd. The film’s production was completed before the commencement of the SAG-AFTRA strike. So, we should not expect any delay in its theatrical release. Stay tuned for more updates.
