IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME! Bad Boys 4 is on the way! Will Smith has made this news official via his latest Instagram post. The film is currently in the early production stage, with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returning to helm the much-awaited sequel.
In his Instagram video, Smith prepares himself to drive to Martin Lawrence’s house and says, “Yo, I’ve got an announcement. Y’all better stop scrolling.” Soon, he starts playing ‘Shake Ya Tailfeather’, one of the soundtracks of Bad Boys II. After arriving at Lawrence’s door, the duo declares that Bad Boys 4 is officially happening. We can also see them apologising for shouting ‘Bad Boys For Life’ as it is the title of the third BB entry.
The post-credits scene of ‘Bad Boys For Life’ hinted that the fourth instalment would definitely arrive. Mike Lowery (Smith) finds out that Armando Aretas (Jacob Scipio) is his son. We see him visiting a highly-guarded cell to meet Armando in the scene. He offers him an opportunity to reduce his sentence. In return, Armando accepts his father’s offer.
The moment Mike discovers the truth about Armando being his son is the moment ‘Bad Boys For Life’ starts giving Fast & Furious vibes. Whether it was the makers’ intention or not, the post-credits scene kind of established Armando as the ‘Deckard Shaw’ of the Bad Boys franchise. And it made sense as the scene provided some sort of closure to his character.
We are not saying that Bad Boys 4 will play out exactly as the F&F franchise. But Armando may emerge as the ‘ace in the hole’ for Mike and Marcus in extremely f**ked up situations. Shaw did pretty much the same for Dominic Toretto and his family in The Fate of the Furious (2017).
Many of Smith’s projects faced postponement after his infamous slap incident with Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. Although, Lawrence confirmed that Bad Boys 4 was happening in his interview with Ebony Magazine in July last year. But that ‘slap’ forced many to speculate about the sequel’s fate.
Jerry Bruckheimer, Will Smith, Chad Oman and Doug Belgrad are co-producing Bad Boys 4 with Martin Lawrence, Barry Waldman, Mike Stenson, James Lassiter, and Jon Mone serving as executive producers. Stay tuned for more updates.
