It seems like “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” may save this summer for Hollywood. As per Variety, the latest Will Smith and Martin Lawrence starrer has collected nearly $5.9 million in Thursday previews at the box office so far, the highest for a R-rated movie since Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
This is a positive sign for Hollywood, considering recent big-budget flops like “The Fall Guy,” “IF,” and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” at the global box office. According to Deadline, Bad Boys 4 may rake over $75 million or more in its opening weekend, with $45-50 million domestically (Canada and the United States) and $30 million internationally. Sony is less enthusiastic about the film’s performance abroad given the aforementioned movies’ struggles to connect with international audiences.
“Bad Boys for Life” was a surprising box office success, as many experts believed that the film might bomb before its theatrical release. However, the threequel exceeded all expectations and minted over $426 million globally, against a hefty budget of $90 million. “Ride or Die” is likely to follow its predecessor’s footsteps and emerge as a commercial success at the global box office. However, it may struggle to surpass the collections of the third part.
Led by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, “Bad Boys for Life” is helmed by Adil & Bilall. It also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nunez, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffed, Rhea Seehorn, Jacob Scipio, Tiffany Haddish, Joe Pantoliano, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
