The winners of the 2023 edition of the British Academy Film Awards aka BAFTAs have just been announced in London. In India, the BAFTAs were streamed live on Lionsgate Play. The awards ceremony was dominated by the widely acclaimed German anti-war film ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’, which bagged the highest number of seven awards including Best Film, Best Director & Best Film Not in English Language categories.
The next two films with most BAFTA wins were ‘Elvis’ and ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ with four awards each. For his titular act in the biopic film ‘Elvis’, Austin Butler bagged the ‘Best Actor’ BAFTA Award. And the ‘Best Actress’ Award has gone to Cate Blanchett for her performance in ‘TAR’.
Further, the ‘Best Animated Film’ BAFTA was handed over to none other than Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.
As far as Indian cinema is concerned, it was not a good day at this year’s BAFTA. Because the globally acclaimed award-winning Indian film ‘All That Breathes’ failed to win the ‘Best Documentary’ Award, which has been bagged by another Oscar-nominated film ‘Navalny’.
