The acclaimed Bangladeshi movie ‘Saturday Afternoon’ will soon be available to watch on SonyLIV. The movie was not getting clearance from the BFCB for four years and after this long period, the movie will finally stream on OTT. It is written and directed by popular filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, whose films are getting wide international admiration in various film festivals.
‘Saturday Afternoon’ or ‘Shonibar Bikel’ tells the story of one regular day in the city, when a cafe is suddenly attacked by some terrorists. They threaten to kill everybody inside, the disabled, foreigners, and most importantly, the non-muslims. As the Police try to make them surrender or at least negotiate and communicate their wants, they grow more violent and execute the hostages one by one.
The movie stars Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Zahid Hasan, Nusrat Imroz Tisha, Iresh Zaker, Eyad Hourani, Selina Black and many other actors in important roles. Tisha is a regular collaborator of Farooki, who is also her husband. The collaboration between Parambrata and Farooki too is one of the USPs of the movie. Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is known for elevating the mundane, regular life with superb storytelling abilities. Saturday Afternoon is executed beautifully and has great performances.
The movie is a joint production of Bangladeshi, Germany and Russia. It came out in 2019 and was not streaming because it was not cleared by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board. After four long years, the movie will now finally be available to watch.
Saturday Afternoon will be available on SonyLIV from the 24th of November onwards.
