The ‘Barbenheimer’ fever is in its final days. Both Barbie and Oppenheimer have performed exceptionally well at the global box office and played a significant role in bringing back people into theatres. Variety declared the ‘Barbenheimer’ trend, “The bomb versus the bombshell.” After that, fans took it from there by creating amazing memes and spoof trailers and selling T-shirts online. One of the biggest reasons why ‘Barbenheimer’ became so globally prominent was the stark difference between the film’s themes – “Oppenheimer” was a hard-hitting biographical thriller while “Barbie” served as a vibrant fantasy comedy. Now, we have Disney’s ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ vs. Illumination’s ‘Despicable Me 4’.
The last offering from the Despicable Me franchise, Minions: The Rise of Gru, gave birth to the #Gentleminions TikTok trend, thanks to the franchise’s global popularity. On the other hand, Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King (2019) collected over $1.6 billion worldwide. So we should expect to witness a pretty good box office battle between Mufasa and Despicable Me 4 in 2024.
Despicable Me 4 and Mufasa are expected to come out in the first week of July 2024. However, their release dates are different. Both films will arrive in theatres globally on July 3, 2024, and July 5, 2024, respectively.
Helmed by Chris Renaud, Despicable Me 4 stars Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin, Miranda Cosgrove, and Steve Coogan. Whereas, Mufasa: The Lion King has Barry Jenkins as director, with a cast consisting of Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani. Stay tuned for more updates.
