Fans were surprised to know that ‘Dangal’ helmer Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film ‘Bawaal’ starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles had ditched a theatrical release and is now all geared up to soon start streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform later this month on 21st July. Earlier, it was slated to be released in theatres in October 2023.
And now, just a few moments back, the makers have unveiled the first teaser of ‘Bawaal’. Let’s see how much and what it tells us about the film.
‘Bawaal’ teaser starts off with a lavishly dressed Janhvi Kapoor in an upmarket fashion store, her romantic rendezvous with a regular guy Varun Dhawan followed by some heartbreaking moments in their love story.
Although nothing concrete is known about the film’s plot, ‘Bawaal’ is being touted as a timeless love story which apparently revolves around a small-town man who falls for a beautiful woman and badly wants to marry her in order to prove his standing in society. The film has been shot in several European countries too.
‘Bawaal’ is also the first Indian film to premiere at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The reason being that the film is set against the backdrop of the Second World War and Paris plays an integral part in the film. Varun Dhawan is ostensibly playing the role of a history teacher in the film whose wrong teaching leads to some sort of ‘Bawaal’ in the film. Although it’s not confirmed yet.
Now, only time will tell whether ‘Bawaal’ will create an impact on Indian OTT audiences and whether the makers’ decision to release the film directly on OTT will yield rich dividends for them and for Amazon Prime Video.
