Paul Mescal has finally addressed the rumours about him being considered for the role of Paul McCartney in the upcoming ‘The Beatles’ biopics. In February 2024, filmmaker Sam Mendes was confirmed to direct the project. In fact, Mendes will helm four separate biopics, each focusing on a different member of the iconic British rock band. The same actors will portray each member across all four films. In early June this year, rumours began circulating about Mescal playing McCartney in the forthcoming biopics.
Mescal discussed these rumours in his recent interview with GQ, where he spoke about whether he would be playing McCartney in the upcoming biopics. “I would love to be involved, but there’s nothing set in stone.”
The Gladiator 2 actor’s recent statement indicates that he has not yet been approached for the role. However, this does not mean he won’t play the part, as the project is still in the early stages of production.
The report that initially suggested Mescal might play McCartney in the forthcoming Beatles biopics also claimed that three other actors have been cast as the remaining members of the band: Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Charlie Rowe as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. Based on Mescal’s recent comments, it’s unclear which of these actors, if any, has been officially confirmed. Neither Sony nor Mendes has released an official statement on the matter.
The upcoming biopics are a risky venture, as all four films are scheduled for release within the same year, 2027, which could overwhelm viewers. However, the success of biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis demonstrates that there is a significant audience for musical history, willing to go to theaters. Stay tuned for more updates.
