Before Pathan & Tiger 3, A Rundown of Salman Khan & SRK’s Onscreen Collaborations

Before Pathan & Tiger 3, A Rundown of Salman Khan & SRK’s Onscreen Collaborations

Movie buffs might already be aware that superstar Shah Rukh Khan is presently busy shooting for what is being touted as his comeback movie – the much-anticipated spy actioner ‘Pathan’. And now, as per a recent report, another superstar Salman Khan is set to commence shooting on the same set for the third installment of the ‘Tiger’ film franchise – ‘Tiger 3’.

Both films being YRF ventures, whether the overlapping schedule was a planned decision by the makers or not, is subject to speculation. We say so because Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to shoot for a cameo for Salman Khan’s Tiger film. The coming together of these two splendid performers is considered a huge event by any standards.

However, this is not the first time the two actors will be sharing screen space for a film. Because in several films before, they have acted together and many times their careers have crossed paths in interesting ways.

The first major film in which Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were cast together was Rakesh Roshan’s reincarnation drama ‘Karan Arjun’ which went on to become a huge box office success. The next time their career paths crossed was for Karan Johar’s directorial debut love quadrangle ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. The reunion of the two superstars was intelligently marketed as a major selling point by the makers.

Their subsequent cinematic venture was the forgettable romantic film ‘Hum Tumhare Hein Sanam’ which featured Madhuri Dixit as the leading lady. Besides these films, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan had made cameo appearances in each other’s films including ‘Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega’, ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Tubelight’, and the more recent and SRK’s last major feature film ‘Zero’.

What’s even more interesting is that there were many films that were reportedly supposed to feature one of the two superstars but for certain reasons the film went to one of the other actors instead.

For instance, Shimit Amin’s sports film ‘Chak De! India’ was reportedly initially offered to Salman Khan first. However, the film eventually starred Shah Rukh Khan and it was a critical and commercial hit.

Prior to that, Salman Khan had also purportedly turned down offers to be cast in films like ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan had bagged the Best Actor Filmfare Awards for all these three films.

Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan is also said to have turned down a big role that eventually went to Salman Khan. SRK was ostensibly offered ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ by Kabir Khan but couldn’t sign the film because of some reason.

Witnessing the two powerhouse performers Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan is undoubtedly a visual delight for cinephiles. And the audiences can’t wait to watch them create onscreen magic again in their upcoming films ‘Pathan’ and ‘Tiger 3’.
