Acclaimed Hollywood actor-filmmaker Ben Stiller is collaborating with Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett to adapt the science fiction espionage British TV series ‘The Champions’, that was aired during the late 1960s, into a feature film.
Ben Stiller would not only star in the movie but also direct it. Both Ben Stiller and Cate Blanchett would also act as co-producers for the project.
The original show namely ‘The Champions’ revolves around three agents – a pilot, a codebreaker, and a scientist, who work for a UN law enforcement organization. When their plane crashes in the Himalayas during their joint mission, they are rescued by a highly advanced society living secretly in Tibet.
The three agents are granted superhuman powers that enhance their five senses and their intellectual and physical abilities. How they use secretly their newly found powers in the outside world as champions of Law, Order, and Justice, forms the rest of the plot.
This is not the first time Ben Stiller will be going behind the camera. Previously, he has directed films and shows such as ‘The Cable Guy’ starring Jim Carrey, ‘Zoolander’ films, ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’, and more recently the prison-escape biographical crime mini-series ‘Escape at Dannemora’. Ben Stiller is busy these days with the post-production work for the Apple TV Plus workplace thriller series ‘Severance’.
On the other hand, Cate Blanchett’s forthcoming acting projects include Guillermo del Toro’s directorial film ‘Nightmare Alley’ co-starring Bradley Cooper, Netflix sci-fi drama ‘Don’t Look Up’ co-starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Jennifer Lawrence, and video game-based action-adventure movie ‘Borderlands’. Cate Blanchett has been part of some fine films including ‘The Aviator’, ‘Elizabeth’, ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’, and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, to name a few.
