With the release of Severance Season 2 just around the corner (January 17), the official confirmation for Season 3 has arrived too. Co-director Ben Stiller has confirmed the news. The series debuted on Apple TV+ in February 2022 and quickly became a global sensation, thanks to its imaginative and mind-blowing storyline, Stiller’s direction, and fantastic performances from the cast, which consists of talents such as Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette.
In a recent interview with Collider, Stiller disclosed that he and his team have started working on Season 3. This is what he said:
“You have a responsibility to the audience that you’re going somewhere with it. That’s always been a part of it for us, really understanding where it’s heading to, and Apple’s been supportive of that and been sensitive to what the story is and not saying, ‘Okay, this is something that has to keep going as long as it’s successful.’ It should go as long as the story goes, and that’s something we have an idea of, and we’re working towards as we’re starting up our Season 3 work.”
Not much is known about Season 3 as the sophomore chapter is yet to arrive on Apple TV+. However, given the showrunners putting great care and attention to detail to Season 1, we should expect plenty of gripping character arcs, sensational and trippy stories, and some truly mind-boggling revelations.
What about the release date? Well, that can be a bit of an issue as there is nearly a three-year-long gap between the releases of the first two seasons. Following this trend, the third season could arrive in 2028. Although considering that Season 3 is already in the works, we could get it sooner than expected.
Severance Season 1 was a massive success for Apple TV+, earning a staggering “fresh” score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 116 certified reviews.
