Based on a true story, spy thriller film ‘The Courier’ is coming to Amazon Prime Video. Having had its successful theatrical run in the US, Benedict Cumberbatch starrer film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video India on 2nd August, 2021.
Set during 1960 London, ‘The Courier’ is a true life spy-thriller film based on the story of an unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history. At the behest of the UK’s MI-6 and a CIA operative (Rachel Brosnahan), he forms a covert, dangerous partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) in an effort to provide crucial intelligence needed to prevent a nuclear confrontation and diffuse the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Helmed by ‘On Chesil Beach’ director Dominic Cooke, ‘The Courier’ stars Emmy Award winner Benedict Cumberbatch (‘Sherlock Holmes’, ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘The Imitation Game’), Rachel Brosnahan (‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’, ‘House Of Cards’), Jessie Buckley (‘Wild Rose’, ‘Chernobyl’), Angus Wright (‘Maleficent’) and Merab Ninidze (‘Nowhere in Africa’) among others.
Tom O’Connor has written and produced ‘The Courier’ alongside Cooke, Adam Ackland, Ben Browning, Ben Pugh, Rory Aitken, Josh Varney, and Leah Clarke. The production companies behind the film are 42, FilmNation Entertainment, Sunny March, Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.
‘The Courier’ was originally titled ‘Ironbank’ and had its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival on 24th January, 2020. It later released in the US in March this year and was received well.
