Homegrown streaming giant SonyLIV has grabbed the streaming rights for ‘Lokkhi Chhele’. The Bengali social drama film ‘Lokkhi Chhele’ will premiere on SonyLIV on 8th September, 2023, which is next Friday.
Lokkhi Chhele is written and directed by acclaimed Bengali filmmaker, Kaushik Ganguly. The film is produced by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee under the banner of Windows Production. The film stars Ujaan Ganguly as the lead protagonist. Ritwika Pal, Aditi Miraki, Purab Seal Acharya, Indrasish Roy, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Churni Ganguly, Babul Supriyo, Joydip Mukherjee, among others, make up the rest of the cast.
The gritty premise of ‘Lokkhi Chhele’ shines a spotlight on the regressive practices of superstitions in Indian homes, especially in the rural belt of India. A young doctor is stunned when he comes across a child born with eight limbs in a tiny village in Bengal. The little girl is dubbed a miracle child and an incarnation of Ma Lokkhi, and becomes the object of worship for the superstitious villagers. The doctor and his colleagues fight against the social superstitions prevalent in the village, but will they succeed in banishing centuries old superstitions? The story of Lokkhi Chhele is inspired by a real-life incident in Bihar.
