The tv and streaming rights for the Bengali film ‘Dostojee’ has been grabbed by British broadcaster Channel 4. Channel 4 will stream the movie in the United Kingdom and in Ireland. Dostojee has been very much appreciated in various national and international film festivals and it will definitely be loved by audiences abroad.
‘Dostojee’ is written and directed by filmmaker Prasun Chatterjee and it premiered at the BFI film festival in London in 2021. It had its theatrical release on the 11th of November last year and was appreciated by critics and audiences equally for the quality of the film. Dostojee stars young actors Arif Shaikh and Asik Shaikh and known faces like Jayati Chakraborty, Anujoy Chattopadhyay and Swatilekha Kundu.
Dostojee tells the story of two eight year old boys who are best friends and one happens to be Muslim while the other one is Hindu. Safiqul and Polash call each other ‘Dostojee’. Both of them do everything together and are loved by each others’ families too. But after the demolition of the Babri Mosque, everything changes. And Safiqul is left alone when his best friend Polash dies. It is a heartwarming tale of friendship and a deep social commentary as well. Dostojee explores the possibilities of what impacts religious differences can have in a friendly relationship.
The film is 1 hour and 51 minutes long and is very well crafted. The background score of the movie is pretty amazing and the scenes are shot with beauty. The music is composed by Pritam Mondal a.k.a YourPritam.
There are no update regarding the streaming of the film in India. However, Channel 4 has made a deal to stream it across UK and Ireland. It is quite rare for a regional low-budget Indian film to impress people at such a scale and make such an impressive deal.
