The legend Amitabh Bachchan is busier than ever and age does not seem to slacken him down. After Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Uunchai’, Bachchan will next be seen in a courtroom drama ‘Section 84’.
‘Section 84’ will be directed by filmmaker Ribhu Dasgupta and this will be the actor’s third collaboration with him. He has worked with Amitabh in a mini series ‘Yudh’ and the 2016 thriller ‘Te3n’. Ribhu’s last release was ‘Code Name Tiranga’ starring Parineeti Chopra and Hardy Sandhu.
The last time we saw Big B in a courtroom drama was in 2016. We saw a new avatar of him and his acting prowess in the Shoojit Sircar directorial ‘Pink’. We have seen Bachchan shine in the 2019 film ‘Badla’ which was directed by Sujoy Ghosh. But Badla was not a courtroom drama, it can be better categorized as a legal thriller. Both the films have Tapsee Pannu as his co-actor. We can only say that this genre suits Bachchan and it is good for fans that he is coming back with a new legal drama.
The section 84 of the Indian Constitution talks about the ‘Act of a person of unsound mind.’ —Nothing is an offense which is done by a person who, at the time of doing it, by reason of unsoundness of mind, is incapable of knowing the nature of the act, or that he is doing what is either wrong or contrary to law. We get to know what the film will be about from the title itself. But we do not know whether Bachchan’s character will be defending someone with an unsound mind or he will be against someone trying to exploit the law. Or there is a probability that he himself will be the person committing the crime, knowingly or not.
Section 84 will be produced by Reliance Entertainment, Film Hangar and Saraswati Entertainment in association with Jio Studios.
