A Hollywood executive has said that there is a very strong possibility of Apple buying off Disney. If it really happens, it will be one of the biggest deals in the history of entertainment. This deal is being talked about for a long time and Apple has denied such intentions. The company says at this point of time, they do not want to buy a studio.
The executive says “I don’t think [Apple] would buy the company as it presently exists. But if you see Bob start to divest things … that feels like he’s prepping for a sale. And there’s clearly no buyer like Apple.”
It is true that there is no other buyer that can buy Disney. It has a total of 2.8 Trillion market capital and is a company that can afford a studio like Disney, that is the most valuable brand in the market.
The two companies share a long chemistry. Steve Jobs served as a member of the board of directors from 2006 to 2011. Also Bob Iger joined Apple’s board after Steve’s death. Bob Iger has stated in his autobiography that if Steve Jobs were alive, the two companies could have merged and made into something bigger.
There are many loyal fans of Disney and many shareholders that will not be very happy with the deal. The deal is not happening anytime soon though. And it will not happen in the current state of Disney. If only Bob Iger decides to sell some of the branches of Disney to prepare it for sale, it will be okay for Apple to acquire it.
