While fans of the hit BBC spy series ‘Killing Eve‘ are excited that the new Season 4 of the show is officially in production, we in India have something else to be thrilled about. The big news is that Indian director Anu Menon will be directing several episodes of Killing Eve Season 4! How’s that for a really proud moment for the country’s filmmaking talent, more specifically, female talent.
For those not in the know, Anu Menon has earlier directed the Naseeruddin Shah – Kalki Koechlin starrer, ‘Waiting’, Ali Zafar’s ‘London Paris New York’, the Vidya Balan film, ‘Shakuntala Devi’, and Amazon Prime Video’s hit series, ‘Four More Shots Please’. She even won the Best Director award for ‘Waiting’ at prestigious international platforms. Directing ‘Killing Eve’ Season 4 is definitely a commendable feather in her cap.
Killing Eve is a British show, created for BBC by acclaimed actress, writer and director, Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Three seasons of the show have been released up till now. The under-production fourth season will also be the last season for the multiple award-winning show. It is set in the world of British intelligence, and centres on a female spy who becomes obsessed with hunting down an elusive female serial killer. As the seasons progress, an intriguing relationship develops between the spy and the serial killer.
Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh play the serial killer Villanelle and the British spy Eve Polastri respectively. The two actresses will reprise their roles in Killing Eve Season 4. Fiona Shaw will reprise her role as MI5 boss, Carolyn Martens, while Kim Bodnia will return to play Konstantin Vasiliev, Villanelle’s handler in the show.
The first season of the series was based on the book ‘Codename Villanelle’, written by Luke Jennings. Subsequent seasons have followed their own trajectory as far as the story goes. The show has been famous for having only female writers heading the writing duties. Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote Season 1, Emerald Fennell wrote Season 2, and Suzanne Heathcote wrote Season 3. In an exciting development, Sex Education writer Laura Neal has written Killing Eve Season 4, thereby amping up anticipation for the finale season of Killing Eve.
Here’s wishing Anu Menon all the best for directing Killing Eve Season 4!
