It’s now official. There is soon going to be a fifth installment of the Matrix franchise. The movie will be directed by Drew Goddard. Drew Goddard is known for directing films like ‘Bad Times At The El Royal’ and ‘The Cabin In The Woods’. He has also written wonderful screenplays for ‘The Martian’, ‘World War Z’ and ‘Cloverfield’. The direction is, of course, in very safe hands.
The first movie ‘Matrix’ came out in 1999 and it was almost like a cultural and cinematic revolution. It was followed by two sequels that came in 2003. The sequels were not very well-received and were criticized by critics and audiences. However, the fan base for the series grew over time and the fourth movie was pretty good at the box office. Fans keep high hopes for the fifth movie. It will be the first movie without Lily Wachowski or Lana Wachowski as the director. Lana will be associated with the movie as an executive producer.
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will most probably reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity. Actors like Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who joined the franchise later on also have a good chance of returning.
The fourth film in the series was titled ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ and it released in 2021. The movie was directed by Lana Wachowski and was a sequel to ‘The Matrix Revolutions’. The release dates and other details to ‘Resurrections’ will be revealed later on.
