It’s not been a long time since the ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’ actress revealed that the Pirates of the Caribbean 6- the reboot of the franchise that was supposed to star her- was shelved. Well, in a piece of happy news to fans, it seems there is hope for the movie after all!
It was during a talk with The Hollywood Reporter that star producer Jerry Bruckheimer gave updates regarding the film. The producer of the last five Pirates of the Caribbean films for Disney revealed that the project involving Robbie, and another one involving a younger cast are both very much still on for him and at Disney. Explaining that the Robbie film would need a bit more work to be done in its writing, the movie is taking a bit more time. Hence, as per reports, it seems more likely that the other film will enter production first.
It was reported widely in the media that the growing massive support for the original lead of the franchise- Johnny Depp– was one of the reasons the movie got shelved. In regards to the possibility of Depp returning to the character he was unfortunately thrown out of due to the accusations against him, Bruckheimer revealed that it is up to Disney to decide whether to have him back. It is to be noted that Depp had a rather negative reaction to being asked if he would return to the franchise after what transpired with Disney.
Pirates of Caribbean 6 was poised to have more of a female-led cast than the original films, with the movie to be written by Robbie’s ‘Birds of Prey’ screenwriter Christina Hodson. It is not sure as of now if the crew has changed or not.
Coming to the latest news regarding work, the teaser of Robbie’s latest ‘Barbie’ was released recently to heaps of praise. The teaser paying homage to the cult -classic film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ has increased the buzz around the film to new heights. The movie will have a big ensemble cast, and by big, we do mean BIG! Led by Ryan Gosling and Robbie and directed by ‘Little Women’ director Greta Gerwig, the movie is set to release on 21 July 2023.
