Binged Yearenders: 2025 Top Non-Indian OTT Shows

2025 emerged as another big year for India’s streaming landscape. However, there’s no denying that it was international shows that connected most strongly with Indian OTT viewers. Moreover, the “good but not great” responses to the highly anticipated returns of giants like The Family Man Season 3 and Delhi Crime Season 3 turned out to be a big downer.

This indicates that Indian audiences are rapidly developing a diverse taste for narratives that span genres and continents. From heart-stopping sci-fi finales to heartwarming K-dramas and the thrilling world of anime, the top 10 non-Indian OTT shows of 2025 paint a clear picture of a nation deeply entrenched in the global viewing experience.

1. Stranger Things Season 5 – Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 (Netflix)

We don’t need to remind anyone or sing songs about how popular and massive this Duffer Brothers’ creation has become. With Vol. 1 dropping in late November and Vol. 2 arriving on Christmas (November 26 in India), Stranger Things Season 5 is dominating conversations, social media trends, and living rooms across India.

Fans who have grown up watching Eleven, Mike, Will, and the rest of the group deal with the grotesque atrocities of the Upside Down, with Vecna being the biggest threat of them all, are more than ready to witness the epic finale scheduled to release on New Year’s Day 2026 (in India).

2. When Life Gives You Tangerines (Netflix)

If Squid Game opened the floodgates, When Life Gives You Tangerines proved that K-dramas are now firmly mainstream in India. Starring the beloved IU and Park Bo-gum, this period drama beautifully blended romance, resilience, and historical context. Its relatable themes of youth, love, and overcoming adversity, coupled with stellar performances and exquisite cinematography, struck a deep chord with Indian viewers, making it a phenomenon.

3. Squid Game Season 3 (Netflix)

The highly anticipated third season of Squid Game proved that the dystopian survival thriller remains a powerful force. Indian audiences, already captivated by its brutal social commentary and high tension, flocked back to see what new, deadly games awaited. Yes, its conclusion remained divisive for a noticeable amount of viewers, yet it remained a long-running streaming champion on Netflix India.

4. Adolescence (Netflix)

This dark, intense thriller mesmerised viewers with its complex characters and twists. Adolescence offered a raw and unflinching look at difficult themes, appealing to a segment of the audience that craves psychological depth and morally ambiguous narratives. Special shoutout to Owen Cooper for delivering a raw and powerful performance. He has a bright future ahead of him.

5. The Pitt (JioHotstar)

This high-stakes medical drama (led by Noah Wyle) found a massive audience on JioHotstar. This success showcases the enduring appeal of the genre in India, with its blend of human drama, life or death situations, and the constant race against time. The show’s strong storytelling and compelling characters resonated widely, benefiting from JioHotstar’s extensive reach.

6. Severance Season 2 (Apple TV)

Apple TV’s critically acclaimed Severance made a powerful comeback with its second season. Indian audiences, known for their appreciation of psychological thrillers and intricate plots, were deeply engrossed by its unique premise and masterful execution. The show’s complex themes of work-life balance, identity, and corporate control sparked intense discussions and theories.

7. Fallout Season 2 (Prime Video)

Following a strong debut, Fallout Season 2 on Prime Video continues to build its fanbase in India. The series successfully translated the beloved video game’s darkly humorous, retro-futuristic, and dangerous world to the screen. Its blend of action, satire, and compelling characters set against a meticulously crafted post-apocalyptic backdrop has resonated strongly with sci-fi and action enthusiasts.

8. Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (Netflix)

This charming and often witty series, a delightful and beautiful blend of fantasy, comedy, and romance with a culinary twist, found its way into Indian hearts. Its blend of engaging storytelling and picturesque settings offered a delightful escape, proving that lighter, character-driven narratives also have a strong appeal.

The outstanding chemistry between the leads, Im Yoon-ah and Lee Chae-min, further uplifted the show’s prominence among the country’s OTT viewers.

9. Sakamoto Days (Netflix)

The inclusion of Sakamoto Days is a significant indicator of anime’s growing mainstream appeal in India. Adapting the popular manga, this action-comedy about a legendary hitman turned convenience store owner delivered thrilling fight sequences and plenty of LOL moments, drawing in both dedicated anime fans and new converts.

10. Genie, Make A Wish (Netflix)

Rounding out Netflix’s strong showing, Genie, Make A Wish offered a lighthearted yet highly entertaining premise. After 983 years of imprisonment, a vengeful genie named Iblis tracks down the reincarnation of his captor, who is a struggling, emotionless woman, to grant her three wishes. Their journey together evolves into a chaotic blend of dark comedy and conflict as Iblis’s quest for revenge clashes with her complicated reality.

Its popularity suggests a demand for shows that provide pure entertainment and escapism, often with a touch of magic or humour, providing a refreshing counterpoint to the heavier dramas.
