Binged Yearenders: Top 2025 Non-Indian Movies on Indian OTT

2025 emerged as an important year for international cinema in India. No longer confined to niche art-house formats or film festivals, non-Indian films absolutely exploded on Indian OTT platforms this year, driven by global narratives, innovative storytelling, and the sheer power of diverse voices.

Indian audiences, armed with plenty of dubbing options and a growing appreciation for world cinema, wholeheartedly embraced these cinematic gems.

From the gothic corridors of Victor Frankenstein’s laboratory to the neon-lit stages of K-pop, here are the top 10 non-Indian movies that dominated the OTT charts in 2025 in the country, proving that great storytelling knows no borders, even if it occasionally requires subtitles.

1. Frankenstein (Netflix)

This Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited passion project isn’t just another remake, it’s a soulful, gothic masterpiece. Starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, this version leans heavily into the philosophical “monster within” and beautifully brings out the human side of The Creature. It is the lush, haunting visual language, characteristic of del Toro, blended with outstanding work from the cast, that makes this one of the must-watch cinematic events of the year.

2. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Netflix)

Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns in the threequel. While the sharp-tongued detective still speaks with his signature Southern accent, the film’s soul is undeniably international. Featuring a diverse cast including Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny, the narrative leans into old-world gothic tropes that have also resonated deeply with the Indian audience. Emerging as a massive streaming success across the globe, Wake Up Dead Man proves that a great mystery is the world’s favourite universal language.

3. K-Pop Demon Hunters (Netflix)

Animation meets the global K-pop phenomenon in this vibrant, action-packed musical. The story follows a world-renowned K-pop girl group who balance their time between sold-out world tours and hunting evil spirits. It’s a neon-soaked love letter to Seoul’s pop culture that has topped charts worldwide, including India.

4. Highest 2 Lowest (Apple TV)

Spike Lee’s reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low stars Denzel Washington in a high-stakes kidnapping thriller. While the setting is a gritty, modern-day New York, the film’s DNA is rooted in Japanese noir. It serves as a bridge between Eastern narrative structure and Western urgency, making it a critical darling on Apple’s platform.

5. Lost in Starlight (Netflix)

Netflix’s first original Korean animated feature is a breathtaking sci-fi romance. Featuring the voices of Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung, it tells the story of an astronaut and a musician navigating a long-distance relationship between Earth and Mars. Its lo-fi aesthetic and emotional depth have made it a big hit among viewers.

6. A House of Dynamite (Netflix)

Returning to the high-tension political thriller genre, Kathryn Bigelow delivers a masterclass in suspense. The film explores a global crisis through the eyes of various government officials. Its OTT release, combined with a stellar cast led by talents such as Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson, allowed it to capture the South Asian market, where Bigelow’s gritty realism has a dedicated following.

7. The Lost Bus (Apple TV)

Based on the true story of the 2018 California wildfires, Matthew McConaughey stars as a bus driver leading children to safety. While an American story, its universal themes of survival and heroism, combined with Greengrass’s documentary-style intensity, made it one of the most-watched films globally.

8. Carry On (Netflix)

A TSA agent (Taron Egerton) is blackmailed by a mysterious traveller (Jason Bateman) on Christmas Eve. The film’s rapid-fire action and universal ticking clock premise made it a top-trending title in different territories, including in India, proving that high-octane thrillers are the universal language of OTT.

9. In Your Dreams (Netflix)

This animated adventure follows two siblings who travel into the world of dreams to find a way to save their parents’ marriage. With its imaginative world-building, it has become a must-watch family adventure for families worldwide, transcending language barriers through the sheer power of its visual storytelling.

10. Mountainhead (HBO/JioHotstar)

From the creator of Succession, this satirical drama follows tech billionaires at a mountain retreat during a global AI crisis. With the help of sharp, witty dialogue and incredible performances from the cast, its scathing critique of global tech culture has made it a massive hit on JioHotstar in India and HBO Max elsewhere, resonating with a global audience weary of the Silicon Valley elite.
