The 2018 superhero movie ‘Black Panther’ is undoubtedly one of the best MCU films ever made and it was a massive hit at the box-office too. Its sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ too was well received even though Chadwick Boseman’s presence was sorely missed.
The success of the ‘Black Panther’ films has been to such an extent that there have been talks among fans about further expanding the Wakanda Universe and making it into a potential franchise as there is a lot to explore.
As per an exciting piece of update, an animated series is under development at Marvel Studios which will focus on the legacy and the world of Black Panther. The show is titled ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ and the underlying premise will revolve around how the coveted Black Panther mantle was transferred over a period of time to different Wakandan warriors and ancestors of T’Challa.
The basic story of ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ would center around how these courageous leaders ventured into unknown territories to get hold of dangerous Vibranium artifacts. The animated show is set to be released on the Disney+ streaming platform sometime in the year 2024. ‘Black Panther’ helmer Ryan Coogler is said to be involved in the project, and that’s another thing to be excited about.
So, it looks like the animated Black Panther centric series ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ will take place in erstwhile eras instead of the modern setting showcased in MCU films and shows until now.
Back in 2021, Marvel Studios took the plunge into the animated world with the show ‘What If…?’, whose second season is set to premiere later this month. But it seems that the show was just a launching pad for a more comprehensive animated portfolio in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Besides ‘Eyes of Wakanda’, two more animated shows namely ‘X-Men ‘97’ and ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ are also in the works. Following insipid audience response to some of Marvel’s on-screen projects, the studio should make the next moves carefully to prevent the danger of Marvel superhero genre crossing its saturation point.
