‘Black Panther’ Villain to Develop Black ‘Superman’ Series for HBO Max

Marvel Studios‘ immensely successful superhero film ‘Black Panther’ star Michael B. Jordan is reportedly (via Collider) making a switch to DC Comics’ iconic superhero character Superman. Jordan is developing a Superman limited series for the standalone streaming platform, HBO Max.

The series, which is currently under the initial stages of development, will revolve around the adventures of Val-Zod, an alternate version of the Man of Steel, who has a similar origin story to that of the Superman the cine-world knows. In the comics, Val-Zod is one of the last Kryptonians and the second to use the mantle of Superman.

DC fans might already be aware of a J.J. Abrams’ black Superman movie that would apparently focus on Kal-El aka Clark Kent. It was at one point in time being speculated that Michael B. Jordan might be the perfect choice for the titular character in the upcoming film. However, rumors were dispelled when Jordan stated that “I’m flattered that people have me in that conversation. It’s definitely a compliment, but I’m just watching on this one.”

As far as Jordan’s casting in the HBO Max Superman series, nothing has been officially confirmed in this regard. Although considering the actor’s popularity and his acting skills, many fans would want to see him don the Superman suit for the series.

Michael B. Jordan is well known for his roles in Ryan Coogler’s ‘Fruitvale Station’, boxing film ‘Creed’, as Eric Killmonger the antagonist of ‘Black Panther’, and for his recent performance as John Clark in Amazon Prime Video’s action flick ‘Without Remorse’.

Jordan’s upcoming projects include ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ remake, Ryan Coogler’s ‘Wrong Answer’, Denzel Washington’s directorial ‘A Journal for Jordan’ besides donning the director’s hat himself in the third installment of the popular boxing film franchise titled ‘Creed III’.
