Sigh. It’s happening.
In under two weeks (or 11 days to be precise), we will be seeing Scarlett Johansson‘s last ever on-screen performance as Natasha Romanoff in Marvel’s upcoming superhero film, ‘Black Widow‘. With the promotions now shifting from weekly to almost twice a week, bordering on thrice a week – we know what is coming next. Of course, with most of the people in the country currently unable to access theatres, many will have to wait until the second wave of the coronavirus subsides. But when we get to see the film, one thing is for sure – it will be the last time we will be seeing the original female Avenger on-screen.
Hawkeye. Hulk. Black Widow. Thor. Captain America. Iron Man. The original 6. And Black Widow was the only woman among them. One of the overlooked Avengers for sure, but that didn’t make her any less important to the team. She may have been the “weakest” among the Avengers but her past is darker than any of the others. A character always searching for redemption – her perspective, her skill-set, her humanity were few of the things that held this team together and she will be sorely missed.
Now, we don’t expect the character to completely be written off from the MCU (which could also happen), but since Robert Downey Junior is making small cameos here and there in other MCU projects, we expect Scarlett to eventually come back, years down the line… Maybe.
Anyway, three down. Three more to go.
‘Black Widow’ is expected to premiere Worldwide on July 9th 2021. The movie is also expected to stream in Disney+ Hotstar Premium by the month of October, but we will wait for official confirmation on that.
